Abstract

This report gives an account of a new type of outrigger canoe, which was introduced for the benefit of small-scale fisherfolk in Nias Island, North Sumtera, Indonesia. It summarizes the activities of canoe construction, training of carpenters, demonstration and long-term fishing trails and discusses the impact and prospects for further development.
