The main issues reviewed in the book are: the importance of aquatic genetic resources, conservation of aquatic biodiversity at the gene, species and ecosystem levels, the complexities of resource systems, including change, uncertainty and the policy of precaution, ownership and acess to aquatic genetic resources, status and trends of resources and policies, and the difficulties of communication in light of the diverse perceptions among humans who govern and who depend upon aquatic genetic resoucees.
