Abstract

Someone should carve Gifford Pinchot’s words of 1910 in stone and place them outside DG XIV (the Fisheries Commission of the European Union, EU) in Brussels and at the door of the European Parliament. While Pinchot was writing specifically about the US. Forest Service at the beginning of this century, his words could be justifiably applied to the world’s marine fisheries today.
