This paper focuses on how human fishing and whaling activity has resulted in an increasingly nitrogen-deficient sea, and thereby has caused a progressive slowing of the "biological carbon pump" and disruption of the pre-fishing balance that characterized the planetary carbon cycle in recent millenia.
