In this paper a conventional measure of income poverty is used to explore the different dimensions of poverty (transient, chronic, vulnerability) that affect small-scale fishing communities in developing countries. This is illustrated using farming-fishing communities from a remote rural area in the Democratic Republic of Congo in Africa. The analysis also highlights the high vulnerability of full-time fisherfolks and identifies mobility as a key factor increasing vulnerability.
