In this paper the authors hold that there is more to protected areas than just parks. According to them, protecting a limited number of no-use protected areas in the face of global environmental change is no strategy at all. Displacement of people by people has also almost always been accompanied by displacement of nature. A growing concern surrounds the pattern of forcible removal of people from protected areas in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Conservationists now recognise the importance of conservation outside of protected areas, which certainly will make the rural dweller part of the solution for preserving wildlife and ecosystems.
