The sustainability of a number of stocks will be threatened if the current levels of exploitation are maintained. Improvement of many stocks is urgent. The CFP has had limited progress in adopting multi-annual approaches and effort management has yielded poor results. Overfishing, discards and fleet overcapacity have also contributed to the current problems. Therefore, the time is now to think about the objectives of the CFP and prioritise them.
