The common organisation of the markets (COM) in fishery and aquaculture products has been an integral part of the common fisheries policy (CFP) sincere very beginning. The first set of common measures dates back to 1970. Since then, the COM has grown to become a full-blown component of the CFP and is one of its four principal pillars along with conservation of fish stocks, structural policy and relations with third countries.
