Abstract

The past twenty to thirty years has seen the emergence of retail chains as the dominant distributors of food in developed countries. The apparent power of retail chains in global food distribution raises questions regarding the implications of seafood producers in developing countries. The present report outlines the results of a survey of almost seventy retail outlets in two key European seafood markets, France and Italy.
