The marine fisheries surveys and researches have for their objective an increase in fish production to an optimal level so as to obtain sustaining yields. For formulation and effective implementation of developmental programmes undertaken at Central and State Governmental levels, a knowledge of the magnitude of production in space and time, and in relation to crafts and gear employed in harvesting the resources is very essential.
